Massage Styles and Modalities Used By Our Therapists:

  1. Deep Tissue Massage:  Deep Tissue is a Neuromuscular Soft Tissue Modality of massage.  It uses deeper strokes targeting deep layers of muscle and connective tissue.  This style of massage commonly helps to loosen muscle tissues and connective tissues caused by damage during injury or overuse.  It also releases toxins from the muscles, improves the blood oxygen exchange and increases circulation.  Deep tissue uses a more intense pressure working to release chronic muscle tension or knots, called adhesions.
  2. Lymphatic Drainage:  Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle, rhythmical massage treatment used to stimulate the circulation of lymph fluid around the body.  This helps to rapidly speed up the removal of wastes and toxins from a sluggish Lymphatic System.  It aides in prevention of swelling after injury or surgery.  It is also believed to provide a major boost to your immune system.
  3. Medical Massage:  Is massage that uses a combination of modalities and techniques to address specific injuries and issues from muscle and joint soreness, chronic pain, back and neck aches and pain, fatigue, high blood pressure, Fibromyalgia, TMJ pain, overuse syndrome, headaches, migraines and much more.  This massage involves working the muscles on a deeper level to promote healing of joints, muscle and connective tissue.Medical Massage is used to loosen muscles, improve muscle tone and increase their flexibility.  This massage is also used to supplement wound care, cancer care and a variety of other treatments. Medical Massage usually involves a treatment plan and targets specific areas more in depth.  It is usually done in conjunction with your Chiropractic Treatments and or referral from your physician.  We incorporate heat, stem, ice, stretching and breathing techniques to promote healing.
  4. Myofascial Release:  Myofascial release is manual massage techniques for stretching the fascia.  The goal is to release the fascia restriction and restore its tissue.  Fascia is located between the skin and underlying structure of and skeletal structures in our body.
  5. Pre – and Post – Partum Massage:  Also known as pregnancy massage is a combination of relaxation and deep tissue massage addressing the changes a woman goes through during the different stages of pregnancy.  Post-Partum Massage helps return the connective tissue, ligaments, and muscle tissue to their original state before the pregnancy and delivery.  This massage aides in reducing the scar tissue associated with stretch marks, surgical scaring due to C-section delivery and riding the body of general aches and pains of the labor and delivery. This massage addresses the following:

  7. Sports Massage:  Geared towards those involved in sport activities to help prevent or treat injuries.  Targets the muscle groups used in specific sports.  This massage is used to return you to your desired sports activity with the same or even better level of function.  This style of massage utilizes more aggressive techniques that approach the muscles more deeply.  For the Weekend Warrior in all of us!
  8. Trigger Point Therapy:  Direct pressure is applied to specific points on tender muscle tissue to bring about reduction in muscle tension and pain relief.  This therapy targets tight muscle fibers formed in your muscles after injuries or overuse.
  9. Gua Sha:  “Gua sha is a healing technique of traditional East Asian medicine. It is sometimes called ‘coining, spooning or scraping’. To perform this theraputic massage, an instrument is used to assist in unidirectional press-stroking of a lubricated area of the body surface to intentionally create transitory therapeutic petechiae called ‘sha’ representing extravasation of blood in the subcutis.Raising sha removes blood stagnation considered pathogenic in traditional East Asian medicine. Modern research shows the transitory therapeutic petechiae produces an anti inflammatory and immune protective effect that persists for days following a single Gua sha treatment accounting for the immediate relief that patients feel from pain, stiffness, fever, chill, cough, wheezing, nausea and vomiting etc, and why Gua sha is effective in acute and chronic internal organ disorders including liver inflammation and hepatitis.” – Arya Nielsen, PhD
Gua Sha is also used to treat bursitis.
  10. CranioSacral Therapy:  Cranial sacral therapy (CST) is sometimes also referred to as craniosacral therapy. It’s a type of bodywork that relieves compression in the bones of the head, sacrum (a triangular bone in the lower back), and spinal column.
CST is noninvasive. It uses gentle pressure on the head, neck, and back to relieve the stress and pain caused by compression. It can, as a result, help to treat a number of conditions. It’s thought that through the gentle manipulation of the bones in the skull, spine, and pelvis, the flow of cerebrospinal fluid in the central nervous system can be normalized. This removes “blockages” from the normal flow, which enhances the body’s ability to heal.
